Wankhede Stadium is the most iconic grounds in the country that is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Sheshrao Krushnarao Wankhede stadium, better known as Wankhede stadium is one of the renowned and largest stadiums in the country. The stadium is named after the name of a politician and former secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association, Mr. S. K. Wankhede. This stadium is known to have hosted several International Cricket matches, ODI matches and T20 matches on regular basis.

Legendary History

This stadium is built in 1974 after a chaotic discussion between Mumbai Cricket Association and Cricket club of India. By now, many renowned and prominent cricket players such as Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and many others have displayed their talent in this stadium. Not only this, the stadium had gained recognition for its construction that took place within 6 months, which is almost unbelievable on account of the spacious accommodation of about 32000 people, it offers.

Being the most prestigious stadiums in the country, the stadium holds about 7 stadium stands from which 3 are named after the renowned cricket players, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Vijay Merchant.

The stadium witnessed several world class matches; the most notable was the final match of Cricket World Cup between Sri Lanka and India in 2011, in which India made a win over Sri Lanka by 6 wickets. Also, this is the stadium that had witnessed the last International match played by the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Also, it is the stadium that has been the witness for watching six sixes drawn by Ravi shastri in an over.

By rail: One can reach Wankhede stadium through the Church gate Station that is located very close to the stadium. Also, many local trains arrive from different stations of the Mumbai city and land at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Terminus, which is also located very close to the stadium.
